Our Management Team

Christopher Benham

Group Chief Executive


Chris joined Hunting Gate in 1982 having trained with John Laing Construction and qualified as a Chartered Surveyor. In 2000, Chris was one of the existing Director’s that led the management buy-out to Form HG Construction. Working closely with Kevin Quinn, the other existing Director, HG Construction have now grown to a business in excess of £150M turnover per annum providing sustainable profits in each of the sectors. Chris’s ethos of identifying and exceeding the Client’s expectations is part of HG Construction’s culture. It is also instrumental in achieving a high percentage of repeat business with our customers.

Kevin Quinn

Group Director


Kevin has been in the construction industry since leaving Leicester University where he graduated with a Civil Engineering Degree and progressed to a Member Of Institute Of Civil Engineers.

Kevin has worked closely with Chris Benham over the years to help run and develop HG Construction to the successful company that it is today. Kevin’s engineering skills are particularly utilised in the sub structure solutions that the project adopts. He is particularly astute in securing sustainable engineering solutions for a variety of projects. Coupled with Kevin’s vision of efficiency, Kevin has been instrumental in procuring a high degree of mechanised plant on all of our projects. Particular attention is paid to vertical and horizontal movements and under Kevin’s leadership, the business has now acquired a significant fleet of plant, including tower cranes, which is extensively utilised to ensure time certainty is achieved on our projects.

Kevin also leads the in-house civil engineering operation group which help significant cost control for the business, in an area of operation that has traditionally challenged the industry.

Conor Rice

Managing Director (South)


Conor joined HG Construction Limited as a Graduate Civil Engineer in 2000. With a variety of projects successfully completed on time and in budget, Conor was promoted to the role of Construction Director and subsequently to Joint Managing Director.

With Conor’s hands-on approach he is acutely aware of the challenges facing all of our construction projects. Conor is a keen advocate of achieving design freeze at the earliest opportunity. Conor’s passion for ensuring the early design freeze leads to certain procurement and a predictable on site delivery schedule.

Through Conor’s attention to detail, his high standards and demands, customer satisfaction is retained and future business with existing clients is developed.

Adam Quinn

Managing Director (North)


Adam, a degree qualified Mechanical Engineer with a wealth of experience managing large and complex projects, joined the Board at HG Construction in 2015.

As well as being responsible for a large portfolio of work within HG Construction, Adam has taken on the task of reviewing all of our safety and quality systems and procedures to ensure we meet the highest quality of service to both staff and clients.

Shortly after joining HG Construction, and in line with his mechanical background and expertise, Adam formed HG Mechanical & Electrical with the vision of providing the in-house capability and furthering the overall offering of HG Construction. HG M&E has gone from strength to strength with it now completing 40% of all HG Construction M&E packages.

Adam, who is also a keen advocate of “off-site manufacturing” is also exploring new construction processes to incorporate into the client offering.

Greg Purkiss

Commercial Director


Greg joined HG Construction in 2001 and undertook a day release degree course over a five year period, ending up with a Surveying and Management Degree.

Greg has progressed through commercial, surveying and procurement and is now the Commercial Director.

Greg is responsible for all commercial matters from price ascertainment to the final account agreement.

Greg and his team play a significant part in achieving cost certainty at the earliest possible stage and is experienced in influencing designs to ensure a properly value engineered solution is agreed. Through Greg’s leadership and ownership of the customer’s budget, we are able to ensure the customer’s expectations are achieved and harmonious relationships are maintained with our supply chain.

Alan Nixon

Finance Director


Alan qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 1993 and has recently joined the business.

Recently Alan was Finance Director of Wates Living Space (Maintenance) Limited and was financially responsible for the successful sale of the business to the Wates Construction Group in 2011. Prior to this Alan had a number of senior finance positions for contractors within the Social Housing market.

Alan is responsible for all financial matters within the group. Alan is keen to ensure that the internal controls within the business are maintained and meet the needs of the business. In particular he takes a hands-on approach to ensure that the company experiences positive cash flows and maintains a strong balance sheet.


Health & Safety

Throughout the entire life cycle of all projects, the health and safety of everyone involved is paramount. We aim to provide a working environment that has zero accidents by promoting a culture of safety to ensure the wellbeing of our employees, contractors, and members of the public. Our teams are fully trained in health & safety at all levels, and are motivated to protect all stakeholders affected by our works.

This is managed by virtue of the following:

  • Having a comprehensive and full developed Health & Safety Management System in accordance with OSHAS 18001, subject to regular reviews and monitoring
  • Having access to complete health & safety advice with the aim of maintain a Zero Harm Policy
  • Having fully trained staff at all levels, especially in site management teams, and remaining CHAS, SafeContractor and Constructiononline accredited
  • Carrying out regular inspections and audits of the company’s premises and operational construction sites with a commitment to continuous improvement.

Quality Assurance

We have rigorous operating procedures on all sites, which are reflected in the fact that HG Construction is registered to ISO 9001 and takes part in the Considerate Constructors Scheme. Our quality management system is firmly focused on site activities, with this being the most critical area for achieving a quality product on time.

Each department at HG Construction operates within the agreed guidelines, and the regular review of practices ensures that we are able to meet our clients’ expectations. We also monitor KPI’s with the intention of being able to benchmark particular projects and instil a culture of continuous improvement.
