HG Helps Protect Surrey Docks Farm’s Duck Pond

27th July 2026

Over the past two years, HG has worked alongside the team at Surrey Docks Farm in Southwark to keep their much-loved duck pond safe.

It started with a simple problem: the original fence around the pond was rotting and unsafe. We helped erect a new one. Since then, the challenge has evolved:
🐦 Avian flu risk meant temporary netting had to go up over the pond, visitors couldn’t see the ducks properly (this has since been lifted)
🦊 A sharp rise in local foxes. Around 18 sightings a week, bold and unafraid, led to the netting needing to be put back on every night which needed a solution
💔 Foxes had taken 13 ducks before further action was possible

This year, we extended the fence higher, angling the top outward to make it far harder for foxes to get in — a proper long-term fix, not a patch job.
It’s part of an ongoing relationship with the farm, where we’ve also helped with the odd skip donation along the way.

Surrey Docks Farm relies on over 150 volunteers and runs workshops that support the whole Southwark community, and last year they celebrated 50 years. We’re proud to play a small part in keeping it going.
