HG Construction 2024 – Carbon Plan
A brief overview of our Carbon Plan has been provided below:
HG Construction aims to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2035 for scopes 1 and 2, and by 2050 for scope 3, in response to climate change and the Carbon Law.
- HG Construction’s target for net zero in scopes 1 and 2 is set for 2035, with a commitment to offset residual emissions.
- Emissions are reported under SECR legislation with a baseline year of 2019 for carbon reporting.
Emission Reduction Targets and Pathway
HG Construction has established specific targets to reduce carbon emissions across all scopes, with interim goals leading to net zero by 2050.
- Committed to a 30% reduction in scopes 1 and 2 by 2025.
- Aiming for 100% reduction in scopes 1 and 2 and 50% reduction in scope 3 by 2040.
- Full net zero across all scopes is targeted by 2050.
Methodology for Emission Management
We employ a structured approach to integrate net zero management across our operations and to engage stakeholders.
- Incorporation of net zero management into existing systems and engagement with stakeholders for company-wide change.
- Implementation of an Internal Carbon Price system to fund emission reduction initiatives.
- Annual reviews and detailed reporting will track progress and adjust strategies as required.
Offsetting Strategy for Residual Emissions
HG Construction will offset residual emissions through the purchase of Gold Standard carbon credits.
- Commitment to achieving net zero across all three scopes of emissions.
- Offsetting will focus on purchasing high-quality carbon credits to balance out unavoidable emissions.
Scope 3 Carbon Emissions Reporting
HG Construction is developing a robust methodology for reporting scope 3 emissions, focusing on significant categories.
- Identified categories include purchased goods and services, capital goods, and waste generated in operations.
- Current reporting includes data on grey fleet transport, with plans for comprehensive data collection.
- A traffic light system will indicate the quality of scope 3 emission data and future actions for improvement.
Road to Net Zero Initiatives
HG is committed to specific projects aimed at reducing emissions as part of our pathway to net zero, for example:
- All company cars will transition to electric vehicles.
- Investment in low or zero carbon heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and plant equipment.
- Commitment to purchasing 100% green electricity and exploring solar panel installations at construction sites.
