Following successful delivery of Phase 1, HG were awarded Phase 2 of the impressive Walnut Tree Close student accommodation and co-living development. The works comprised demolition, design and build of two structures housing 403 bed student bedrooms and 116 co-living units across part 4, part 5, part 7 and 8 storey blocks. The scope further included two large basements, a gymnasium, cinema, car parking and cycle storage facilities.
The value engineered construction solution was a contiguous piled basement structure with RC concrete frame and areas of CLT timber frame. A combination of facing brickwork, cladding and curtain walling were used for the facades. Modern prefabricated techniques included bathroom pods, angled window bays and window pods, fixed into position as a complete unit.
