WOBURN PLACE

Status: Complete
Category: Student Accommodation / Co-living
Value: £22M
Client: GCP Bloomsbury Limited

We were awarded the project by SCAPE at the existing Woburn Place in Bloomsbury . This project involved the conversion of the existing building to accommodate 427 bedrooms of Student Accommodation to the “SCAPE” brief including common areas and cinema room.

Full strip out of the existing building back to a shell started at the beginning of Sept 2017 and the full refurbishment with new rooms layouts, lifts and common areas was completed at the end of Aug 2018 ready for the new student academic year.

The site is landlocked on the corner of Tavistock place in a prime West End London location. A main bus route through London with a bus lane to the front of the site with a negotiated closure during the hours of 10am-4.30pm for unloading and removal of waste from site.

A full gantry to the front of the building with site welfare and loading bays above a busy street area with a pedestrian tunnel. Distribution of materials was using a tower crane erected with one of the lightwells to the front of the building and braced back to the structure at 4th floor level. Part scaffold with a hoist and canti-decks to the rear through a narrow undercroft and courtyard.
