HG Construction has been appointed as the main contractor for a new eight storey, 153 room hotel scheme in Clerkenwell along with an affordable housing block, supported by the sensitive refurbishment and extension of a Victorian Ragged School building which will create 18,700 sq ft of Grade A office space.
The new development at Vine Hill & Eyre St Hill will be delivered by HG Construction on behalf of RE Capital. The hotel has been pre-let to Ruby Group for its new London Hotel, ‘Ruby Stella’, designed to offer affordable luxury to its guests.
Greg Purkiss, Commercial Director, HG Construction said: “We are delighted to be working with RE capital to deliver this exciting multi-use scheme which will revitalise the area with beautifully designed buildings and the sensitive restoration of the historic Ragged School. Given that our London offices are close by, we are particularly proud to be working on a scheme that will contribute positively to the local area. We are looking forward to working in collaboration with RE Capital and the wider team and will share our progress along the construction journey.”
The Clerkenwell scheme has been designed to complement the Ragged School’s historic and distinctive crenelated tower, with new publicly accessible external courtyards inspired by Clerkenwell’s many tightly knit streets and alleys. The design of the affordable housing block will echo the style of the Georgian terraced housing that once lined Eyre Street Hill on the eastern edge of the site and will enjoy excellent views over the local area. The hotel plans to welcome guests from Summer 2023.
