HG Construction has been named as the main contractor for Elysian Residences’ new £39m retirement village scheme in Berkhamsted which is being developed in a joint venture with Octopus Real Estate.
The purpose-built luxury retirement village will provide 103 apartments and hotel-style facilities including a double-height lobby, restaurant, bar, library, function room, gym and treatment rooms, with 24-hour care if needed. The project comprises a traditional brick façade and concrete frame structure and will incorporate sustainable construction elements including prefabricated bathroom pods and utility cupboards, and bolt-on balconies.
Designed to create a thriving community, Elysian Residences’ new scheme will provide three elegant, interconnected pavilion buildings, designed in a contemporary style, with the living spaces opening onto terraces, gardens and mature trees.
HG Construction has extensive experience in residential, student accommodation, hotel and commercial schemes. The Elysian Residences development in Berkhamsted will be the first residential retirement scheme for the contractor. Construction is now underway and is expected to complete at the end of 2023.
Adam Quinn, CEO, HG Construction said: “We are delighted to be working with Elysian Residences on this fantastic scheme which will provide exceptional accommodation and facilities within the later living marketplace and create a real sense of community for those living there. HG Construction has a wealth of experience in delivering high-end residential schemes which are tailored to client needs, and we are excited to be entering into our first project in the retirement housing sector. In line with our commitment to creating social value through our projects, we will be maximising local employment, apprentice and work experience opportunities as part of this scheme in addition to developing local community support initiatives.”
